Two Local Unions
A little over forty years ago, Hawaii's masons and workers in related building trades organized into two local unions. From the very beginning, they have worked closely together. Today, Local 1 and Local 630 represent masons, bricklayers, plasterers, cement finishers, tile installers, rock wall setters and caulkers. The unions share a home, a history, new challenges in the present and renewed hope for the future.

Apprentice Training
The apprentice training program of Local 1 and Local 630 are respected not only throughout the building trades in Hawaii, but across the country as well. The two unions regularly send their state champions to the Mainland to participate in national competitions—which they frequently win. "Hawaii has a great program," says Lous Zucco, Coordinator of the Southern California Cement Masons Apprenticheship Program.
